Magic Sort level guide
Magic Sort Level 256 Walkthrough
Magic Sort Level 256 is a three-tier five-cork release board of thirteen bottles — five wooden cork boxes on the top row, with three green padlocks and two purple padlocks, and three short empty buffers in the middle row. Bank green, cyan, red, brown and purple lanes from the green-cyan-blue three-color, the green-red two-color, the two brown-cyan two-colors, and the hidden purple-cyan, then walk the three green-padlock corks first and the two purple-padlock corks second so every released segment lands on a single-color buffer you already built.

How to Solve Magic Sort Level 256 — Full Solution
- Tap the short empty M2 in the middle row to bank a buffer, then pour the green top of M1, the green-cyan-blue 3-color, into M2 to start a green lane and free M2 as a working buffer. Pour the now-exposed cyan of M1 into the short empty M3 to start a cyan lane, leaving M1 as a single-color blue bottle.
- Pour the red top of M5, the green-red 2-color, into the short empty M4 to start a red lane. Pour the now-exposed green of M5 onto the green lane in M2 to double the green supply you need for the three green-padlock corks.
- Tap the leftmost green-padlock cork T1 and pour the banked green lane into it — the cork pops and drops a hidden orange single-color bottle onto the T1 slot. Route the released orange onto a fresh brown buffer built in the next step.
- Pour the brown top of B1, the brown-cyan 2-color, into the small empty that M4 freed up to start a brown lane, leaving B1 as a single-color cyan bottle. Pour the brown top of B3, the second brown-cyan 2-color, onto the brown lane in the new buffer to grow it.
- Tap the T4 green-padlock cork and pour the banked green onto it — the cork pops and reveals a hidden purple single-color bottle on the T4 slot. Tap the T5 green-padlock cork and pour the remaining green onto it — the cork pops and reveals a second hidden purple single-color bottle on the T5 slot.
- Peel the purple top of B2, the purple-cyan 2-color with the question-mark cap, into the small empty that B2 freed up to start a purple lane, leaving B2 as a single-color cyan bottle. Tap the T2 purple-padlock cork and pour the banked purple onto it — the cork pops and reveals a hidden pink plus dark multi-color bottle on the T2 slot. Route the released pink onto a fresh pink buffer and the dark onto a fresh dark buffer.
- Tap the T3 purple-padlock cork and pour any remaining purple onto it — the cork pops and reveals its hidden release on the T3 slot. Top off blue, red, green, cyan, brown, orange, pink, dark, yellow and purple so all thirteen bottles end on a single color, with one final empty left in the top row.
Colors in this level:
Green, Cyan, Blue, Red, Brown, Purple, Orange, Pink, Dark, Yellow, Gray
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Pouring cyan or blue off M1 before peeling green, which strands the green segment underneath the cyan-blue stack and leaves the three green-padlock corks sealed forever.
- Peeling the brown-cyan stacks B1 and B3 before the green-padlock corks are popped, which strands the released orange on a mixed buffer and forces you to peel brown under time pressure with no slack.
- Pouring red from M5 before building an empty in the middle row, which strands the red on the small empty and the green of M5 cannot be routed cleanly to grow the green lane.
Quick Tips for Magic Sort Level 256 (spoiler-free)
- Bank M1's green top first into the short empty M2, or you lose the only green source for the three green-padlock corks and the rest of the puzzle stalls.
- Peel the two brown-cyan two-colors, B1 and B3, only AFTER the green-padlock corks are popped, so the released orange and purple land on prepared buffers instead of forcing you to peel brown under time pressure.
- Pour green from M5 onto the green lane in M2 to double the green supply before you pop any cork — the three green-padlock corks need three separate green pours and a single green buffer runs out fast.
Board notes 5 details
- Layout
- A three-tier board that resolves to five columns wide and thirteen bottles total, no wraps, boxes or magic, but with five corked release bottles. The top row is five wooden cork boxes with padlock colors left to right green, purple, purple, green, green. The middle row is five normal bottles: col 1 is a green-cyan-blue 3-color mixer with green on top, col 2-4 are three short empty buffers, and col 5 is a green-red 2-color mixer with red on top. The bottom row is three normal bottles: col 1 is a brown-cyan 2-color mixer with brown top, col 2 is a purple-cyan 2-color mixer with a question-mark hidden-color cap on the purple top, and col 3 is another brown-cyan 2-color mixer with brown top and a question-mark cap. Three short empty buffers to start, all in middle col 2, 3, 4.
- Goal
- Bank green, cyan, red, brown and purple lanes in the middle and bottom rows before any cork trigger, then walk the five corks in padlock-color order — green, green, green, purple, purple — so each released segment, orange, purple, purple, pink, dark, lands on a prepared single-color buffer. The chokepoint is that M1 is the only green source until you peel the brown-cyan stacks, and B2 is the only purple source until you peel its hidden cap, so the order in which you peel the three-color green-cyan-blue, the two-color green-red, the two brown-cyan two-colors and the hidden purple-cyan decides which cork you can pop first and where each released color lands.
- Opening
- Tap the short empty M2 in the middle row to bank a buffer, then pour the green top of M1, the green-cyan-blue 3-color, into M2 to start a green lane and free M2 as a working buffer. Pour the now-exposed cyan of M1 into the short empty M3 to start a cyan lane, leaving M1 as a single-color blue bottle. Pour the red top of M5, the green-red 2-color, into the short empty M4 to start a red lane and drop the green of M5 onto the green lane in M2 to double the green supply.
- Danger Zone
- Pouring cyan or blue off M1 before peeling green strands the green segment underneath the cyan-blue stack and you lose the only green source for the three green-padlock corks — the first move MUST be green from M1 into M2. Pouring red from M5 before you have built an empty in the middle row strands the red on the small empty and the green of M5 cannot be routed cleanly, so build M4 first or you burn a buffer. Pouring brown from B1 or B3 onto any bottle whose top is not already brown strands the cyan under the brown and you cannot bank a clean cyan lane for the released orange cork.
- Mechanics
- A three-tier five-cork release board with three green-padlock wooden corks T1, T4, T5 and two purple-padlock wooden corks T2, T3 on the top row, gated on peeling one three-color green-cyan-blue mixer and four two-color mixers, green-red, two brown-cyan, one hidden purple-cyan, into the three short middle-row buffers. The puzzle is green-first, purple-second — bank a green lane, a cyan lane, a red lane, and a brown lane from M1, M5, B1 and B3 in that order, then walk the three green-padlock corks by pouring green onto each padlock, then peel the hidden purple cap off B2 to bank a purple lane and walk the two purple-padlock corks so every released color lands on a single-color buffer you already built.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do you open the green-padlock corks in Magic Sort Level 256?
Bank a green lane in the middle row first by pouring the green top of M1, the green-cyan-blue 3-color, into the short empty M2, then pour the now-exposed green of M5, the green-red 2-color, onto that green lane to double the supply. Tap each green-padlock cork T1, T4, T5 in turn and pour green onto it — the cork pops and drops a hidden single-color bottle, orange on T1, purple on T4, purple on T5, onto that slot. The green-padlock corks only open on green, so do not pour cyan, blue, red or brown onto them.
Why must the hidden purple cap on B2 be peeled only after the green-padlock corks are popped in Level 256?
The hidden purple cap on B2 is the only purple source for the two purple-padlock corks T2 and T3, and the released orange from T1 needs a clean brown buffer to land on. If you peel B2 first, the purple lane goes onto a buffer the green corks still need, and the released orange has nowhere to land cleanly. Build the green lane, pop the three green corks, build the brown lane from B1 and B3, and only then peel B2 to bank a purple lane and walk the two purple-padlock corks.
