Magic Sort Level 298 Walkthrough

hard Target: 42 moves 10 colors

Magic Sort Level 298 is a three-tier, twelve-bottle board that hides its only special element — a sealed "?" cork at top-row col-2 — behind a wall of dark-blue tail segments. The cork will only pop when ORANGE is poured on top, and the colour it releases is a hidden GREEN that has to land on the green already sitting at the top of top-row col-1. Bank the green and orange lanes in the two right-side empties first, trigger the cork with orange, then drain every mixer top-first so all twelve positions end on a single color.

How to Solve Magic Sort Level 298 — Full Solution

  1. Pour the orange top off top-row col-4 (orange/dark-blue/dark-blue) onto the "?" cork at top-row col-2 — the cork pops, the hidden green drops onto the mouth, and B2 now reads green/red/red/pale-gray.
  2. Peel the green top off top-row col-1 (green/purple/dark-blue) onto the freshly-exposed green of the cork bottle, merging both greens into a single column.
  3. Bank the freed orange from top-row col-4 by pouring it into the top-row col-3 empty buffer, then move the dark-blue tail of top-row col-4 into the bottom-row col-2 empty so dark blue starts collecting in one place.
  4. Route the purple top of top-row col-1 onto the purple top of middle-row col-1, then peel the now-exposed dark-blue tail of top-row col-1 onto the dark-blue stack in bottom-row col-2.
  5. Drain the middle row top-first — pour cyan off middle-row col-4, pink off middle-row col-3 onto a pink stack, orange off middle-row col-2 onto the banked orange in top-row col-3, and walk every middle-row dark-blue tail into the bottom-row col-2 dark-blue buffer.
  6. Clear bottom-row col-1 (orange/dark-blue) and bottom-row col-3 (red/red/dark-blue) by pouring orange onto the banked orange lane, both reds onto the red of the cork bottle, and the dark-blue tails onto the bottom-row col-2 buffer.
  7. Open up the cork bottle (now green/red/red/pale-gray) — pour the green onto the green you already banked, the reds onto the bottom-row red lane, and the pale-gray onto its own clean bottle, since pale-gray is the only light colour on the board and must finish alone.
  8. Top off green, orange, dark-blue, purple, pink, cyan, blue, red, and pale-gray each into its own single-color bottle so all twelve positions end with no mixed segments left.

Colors in this level:

Green, Orange, Dark blue, Purple, Red, Pink, Cyan, Blue, Pale gray, Yellow

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Pouring green (or any non-orange color) onto the "?" cork instead of orange, which wastes the move and stacks the foreign color on top of an unopened seal.
  • Triggering the cork before the green top of top-row col-1 is exposed and ready to receive the released green, which strands the released green with no clean green destination.
  • Touching bottom-row col-3 (red/red/dark-blue) before top-row col-3 has banked orange, which strands the two stacked reds with no buffer to receive them and locks the middle row.

Quick Tips for Magic Sort Level 298 (spoiler-free)

  • Trigger the "?" cork with ORANGE, not with green — the green you see is the colour that drops onto the bottle AFTER the pop, not the matching key.
  • Eight of the ten working bottles carry a dark-blue tail, so bank dark blue in the bottom-row col-2 buffer early before it strands mid-stack on the way to a single lane.
  • Only the top segment moves — peel greens, oranges, purples, pinks, cyans, blues, reds and pale-gray off the top of each mixer one at a time, never try to pull a buried segment.
Board notes 5 details
Layout
A three-tier, four-column board that resolves to twelve bottle positions. The only special element is a single "?" cork bottle at top-row col-2 with a small tan cap marked by a white "?" on its mouth, holding three visible segments (red top, red middle, pale-gray bottom) underneath the seal. The other nine working bottles are heavy mixes — top-row col-1 (green/purple/dark-blue), top-row col-4 (orange/dark-blue/dark-blue), middle-row col-1 (purple/dark-blue), middle-row col-2 (orange/orange/dark-blue), middle-row col-3 (pink/dark-blue), middle-row col-4 (cyan/dark-blue/dark-blue), bottom-row col-1 (orange/dark-blue), bottom-row col-3 (red/red/dark-blue), and bottom-row col-4 (blue/dark-blue). Two starting empties sit at top-row col-3 and bottom-row col-2, and eight of the ten filled bottles carry a dark-blue tail segment at the bottom.
Goal
Trigger the "?" cork at top-row col-2 by pouring ORANGE on top, releasing a hidden GREEN segment onto the bottle's mouth, and then route that green onto the green stack already sitting at the top of top-row col-1 so the two greens merge into one column. After the cork pops, drain every mixed bottle top-first so all twelve positions end on a single color.
Opening
Pour the orange top off top-row col-4 (orange/dark-blue/dark-blue) directly onto the "?" cork at top-row col-2 to pop the seal and drop the hidden green onto the mouth, then peel the green top off top-row col-1 onto the freshly-exposed green of the cork bottle to consolidate the green lane. Bank the freed orange by pouring it into the top-row col-3 empty buffer so orange is staged on the right before any dark-blue tail gets dumped there.
Danger Zone
Pouring any color other than ORANGE onto the "?" cork wastes the move and stacks the foreign color on top of an unopened seal, losing one of the two starting empties. The green released from the cork has no clean green destination if B1's green top has already been poured elsewhere, so you must trigger the cork only after B1's green is exposed and ready to receive the release. Bottom-row col-3 is the only bottle with two stacked reds, so touching it before the top-row col-3 buffer has banked orange strands the reds with no buffer to receive them and locks the middle row.
Mechanics
A single "?"-cork release on a tidy three-tier, twelve-bottle board, with no other gimmicks. Eight of the ten working bottles carry a dark-blue tail segment, so dark blue is the silent constraint that controls when the cork can be popped safely. The chokepoint is colour-lane second, cork first — bank the green and orange lanes in the right-side empties before triggering the cork, then route the released green onto B1's green stack so the two greens merge into one column.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • How do you open the "?" cork in Magic Sort Level 298?

Pour ORANGE from top-row col-4 onto the "?" cork at top-row col-2 — the cork pops, the hidden green segment drops onto the bottle's mouth, and the bottle now reads green/red/red/pale-gray. Pouring any color other than orange wastes the move and stacks the foreign color on top of an unopened seal.

  • Why must the green and orange lanes be banked in the right-side empties first, before the cork trigger fires?

The cork's released green has to land on the green already sitting at the top of top-row col 1, and the freed orange from top-row col 4 needs a clean buffer to land in. If either lane is already occupied by a different color when the cork pops, the green release strands on the cork slot and the orange has nowhere to dock, which locks the middle row.
