What is Meowdoku?

Meowdoku is a cat-placement logic puzzle from OAKEVER GAMES PTE. LTD., available on iOS and Android. Each board is divided into colored regions, and the rule never changes: place exactly one cat inside every region so that no two cats ever share a row, share a column, or touch diagonally. Level 1 opens on a 4x4 board with one cat already fixed in place, teaching the two ideas the rest of the game builds on: a completed region should be left alone, and a single-cell region is usually worth claiming before a broad shared color.

The board grows steadily from there. By Level 10 the grid is 7x7 and the first real bottleneck appears, where a top color band has to be solved before the center strip is allowed to compete for the same rows. Later boards add pre-placed cats far apart from each other, as in Level 100's 10x10 expansion, and blockers that reroute an edge, as in Level 175. Level 200 builds an 11x11 ladder into a central tower, Level 250 returns to an 11x11 Hard board whose eleven-cat sweep finishes in the bottom-left corner, and Level 300 closes the current set. Difficulty climbs quickly with the grid: of the 300 published levels, most from the mid-game onward are rated hard.

How to Play Meowdoku

These tips apply across all Meowdoku levels. For level-specific advice, open any walkthrough from the range browser above.

• If a region already holds a cat, treat every other square in that region as dead space before you consider any move near it.
• On small boards, claim single-cell regions first. They rarely offer a second option, while the broad shared color usually does.
• A blocked square (marked with a red X) cannot hold a cat, but it still narrows which row and column the neighboring cats are allowed to use, so read it before you commit a nearby placement.
• When a board opens with two pre-placed cats far apart, treat them as the two ends of a bridge and work out the middle columns between them before touching the outer edges.
• The largest, most colorful region on the board is often a decoy. Solve the smaller center region first and let the big region inherit whatever rows are left over.
• If only one row or column is missing a cat once every other placement is set, that last square is forced. Check for this before guessing between two remaining options.
• On boards with a compressing top band, like the early 7x7 puzzles, finish the entire band before letting the central strip claim a single row.
